Retrospect 2011

In autumn 2011 a group of three german students studied bird migration at Muraviovka Park.

On a nearly daily basis we observed the visible migration from an observation building next to the headquarter and caught birds with mist-nets. All birds were banded with rings from Moscow Ringing Center.
From 7th of september until the 29th of october we were able to trap more then 2500 birds out of 66 species, and several publications are in preparation now.
Some of the birds are pictured below:

Long-tailed Rosefinch Uragus sibiricus

Yellow-throated Bunting Emberiza elegans

Brown-cheeked Rail Rallus indicus
During this time, hundreds of children and students from the nearby villages and towns visited the Park to join our project and learn about bird migration and nature conservation.

A big problem for both nature and people of Muraviovka Park are wildfires. In october 2011, we participated in fire-fighting and saved not only the buildings but also important breeding habitats of endangered Red-crowned and White-naped Cranes.
